Harry Barovsky; Civic Leader in Malibu

Harry Barovsky, 62, civic leader and current mayor pro tem of Malibu. A resident of the seaside community for four decades, Barovsky was active in the Malibu Road Homeowners Assn., which opposed expansion of the Pepperdine University campus. He served many years on the Malibu Township Council and worked for cityhood in 1990. He was on Malibu’s original Planning Commission from 1995 to 1998, and then was elected to the City Council in 1998 with the highest vote tally of any candidate. A native of Pittsburgh, Barovsky was a founder and senior vice president of the Morgan Stanley Dean Witter investment office in Malibu. The City Council canceled its scheduled meeting Monday night and instead had a rabbi conduct a memorial service for Barovsky. The council plans to appoint a successor to serve the remaining two years of Barovsky’s term. On Saturday in Los Angeles.
