Prop. 10 Funds to Be Discussed at Meeting

Councilman Mike Markey and county Supervisor Frank Schillo are scheduled to hold a community meeting this morning to discuss how best to spend Proposition 10 funds on young children.
When Proposition 10 was passed in 1998, it added a 50-cents-per-pack tax on cigarettes to raise money to expand programs for children under 5.
The Conejo Valley is set to receive $530,000 to begin neighborhood learning centers, Schillo said. These centers will likely be a joint effort involving families, service providers, civic leaders, local businesses and the community at large, officials said.
The meeting will be from 9 a.m. to noon in the Founders Room of the Fred Kavli Theatre at the Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd.
