* Manager/coaching record: Named manager on Nov. 1, 2000, after two seasons as Dodger bench coach. Also coordinated all on-field activities during spring training. . . . Served as interim manager for four games in 2000, going 3-1. . . . Before joining the Dodgers’ major league staff, was bench coach for four seasons under Montreal Expo Manager Felipe Alou. . . . Posted a 501-486 record in seven seasons as minor league manager from 1987-1991 and 1993-94 with three organizations: Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and Expos. . . . Eastern League’s manager of the year in 1993 after guiding Expos’ double-A affiliate Harrisburg to 94-44 record and league title.
* Playing career: Compiled a .292 career batting average in eight minor league seasons after he was selected by the Cubs in the fourth round of the June 1977 draft. . . . Played outfield in parts of 1980-81 seasons in major leagues with the Cubs. Batted .249 with three home runs, 14 runs batted in, 18 runs and three stolen bases in 87 games (185 at-bats).
* Personal: Resides with wife, Debra, in Sarasota, Fla., during off-season with three sons, Brian (16), Chad (14) and Mark (12). . . . Graduated in 1974 from Badin High School in Hamilton, Ohio, where he played football, basketball and baseball. Is a member of Badin High’s Hall of Fame. . . . NCAA Division III All-America selection at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio, as a sophomore baseball player. Also a member of Marietta College Sports Hall of Fame.
