Nathaniel Payne scored on a four-yard run with 10:16 to play and host North Hollywood High held on for a 16-15 victory over Canoga Park in a Sunset Six League game Friday night.
The touchdown capped a 72-yard drive engineered by quarterback Derick Brill, who replaced starter Steve Porter a few moments earlier.
Porter, who also plays defense, was injured during the point-after attempt after Canoga Park’s Josh Geiger scored to put the Hunters ahead, 15-9, in the third quarter.
The biggest play of North Hollywood’s drive was a 41-yard pass from Brill to Lamar Green. Six plays later, Payne scored on a sweep around the right side.
The Huskies (5-4, 4-0 in league play) took a 6-3 lead when Green caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Porter late in the first quarter.
But the Hunters (6-3, 2-2) rallied for a 9-6 advantage on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Brian Spangle to Israel Perez with 9:14 left in the first half.
Spangle completed five of six passes for 74 yards.
Geiger had 89 yards in seven carries.
