Proud to Be Liberal
* I am so sick and tired of Republicans and right-wingers using the word “liberal” as an invective. I believe it was early liberals under the greatest Republican, Teddy Roosevelt, who started pushing for the rights of workers on the railroads and in factories like the Pullman Co. It was liberals who fought for public schools, eight-hour days, 40-hour weeks, paid vacations, minimum wages and child care. Liberals brought us civil rights and the Clean Water and Clean Air acts, which Republicans keep trying to break down. We enjoy all these wonderful things because of liberals, and I’m proud to be one!
