OUTLOOK
There are a lot of bodies, but the cupboard is bare at several positions, according to Freeman, who welcomed 32 returning players to fall workouts. “Running back will be by committee,” he said. “Last year, we had one guy carry the ball 20-30 times [a game]. This year, we have no size. We’ll have a bunch of small guys carrying the football.” Linebackers Grey, Hacker and Prosser lead a defense that appears to have good strength and speed, but not a lot of experience. Freeman expects Richardson, who lost weight to get to 300 pounds and is quicker and faster than a year ago, to be a force on the offensive line if he can avoid injuries.
