Kuykendall to Respond to Clinton Radio Address

SOUTH BAY — Rep. Steven T. Kuykendall (R-Rancho Palos Verdes), locked in a tough reelection contest in the moderate 36th Congressional District, on Saturday will deliver the Republican response to President Clinton’s weekly radio address.
A spokesman for Kuykendall said Thursday the first-term congressman was chosen by House Majority Leader Richard Armey (R-Texas) to address the nation because he has long talked about the need to pay down the national debt, a subject of Saturday’s response.
A spokesman for the House Republican leadership declined to say directly whether Kuykendall’s reelection hopes had a bearing in the decision to feature him on a broadcast heard around the country.
Kuykendall’s statement will be broadcast locally at 8:06 a.m. on KNX 1070-AM, immediately following President Clinton’s remarks.
