Trial Set in Slaying of Chief’s Granddaughter

A judge Friday ordered Samuel Sharad Shabazz to stand trial on charges of killing the 20-year-old granddaughter of Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard C. Parks.
Judge Michael Kellogg determined that prosecutors presented enough evidence to warrant a trial. Shabazz, 20, could face the death penalty if convicted.
Lori Rene Gonzalez was killed on May 28, 2000, when a gunman fired at a passenger in her car, hitting her instead, police say.
