North Rallies for Victory

Tyhir Duval scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns, including one on an 18-yard run with 1:48 left to play, to help Riverside J.W. North rally from behind twice to defeat Moreno Valley Valley View, 21-17, Friday at Norte Vista High for the Southern Section Division V title, its second section championship in six years.
Duval’s 13-yard run capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive. His 13-yard touchdown run with 6:36 to play gave the Huskies (10-4) a 14-10 lead.
Valley View quarterback Nick Jackson threw a 66-yard scoring pass to Donte McBride with 4:26 to play to give the Eagles (9-5) a 17-14 lead.
After Duval scored on North’s ensuing possession, Jackson drove Valley View 31 yards to the North 40-yard line before time expired.
Spencer Moore scored on a one-yard run and Raul Torres kicked a 37-yard field goal to give Valley View a 10-7 halftime lead.
Moore rushed for 108 yards in 18 carries and Wayland Gilliam-Smith rushed for 137 yards in 31 carries for Valley View.
North fumbled inside the Valley View 10-yard line twice in the second half but the Eagles failed to convert the turnovers into scores.
Duval rushed for 45 yards in five carries and Joshua Barnett gained 98 yards in 16 carries for North.
North quarterback Dion Morton completed six of 13 passes for 130 yards and one touchdown.
