A van carrying 15 teens from Irvine to a soccer game in La Verne flipped over on the Orange Freeway on Tuesday, putting five of them and the driver of another car in hospitals with minor injuries.
“We don’t know exactly what happened,” said Officer Mark Reeves, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol. “Somebody could have cut them off. It’s under investigation.”
The incident happened at 4:45 p.m. when the Ford van, traveling about 65 mph, swerved and overturned just north of Nutwood Avenue. It struck a Toyota, propelling it over the freeway embankment.
