A 17-year-old Altadena youth was killed and another youth was severely injured early Tuesday when the car in which they were riding crashed into a tree in Altadena.
Two other passengers and the driver escaped with minor injuries.
The five young men, all residents of Altadena and students at Pasadena High School, were on their way to school at the time of the crash.
Officials did not release the name of the dead teenager.
The driver, Bobby Harris, 18, apparently lost control of the car in the 2200 block of Altadena Drive. Two of the passengers, including the youth who died, were not wearing seat belts, officials said.
