Police Identify Victims of Slaying, Suicide

Police on Wednesday released the names of the 67-year-old Woodland Hills woman who fatally shot her husband and then took her own life Tuesday.
Lillian Gomes’ body was discovered about 4:10 p.m. by the victims’ son at the couple’s home in the 5300 block of Dubois Avenue, said Officer Ladonna Cissell of the Los Angeles Police Department. The son called 911, and shortly afterward the body of Charles Gomes, 71, was found under a pile of clothing on a bed.
In a prepared statement, police said “a history of domestic violence may have contributed to the shooting,” based on interviews with neighbors and family members.
However, family friends said the Gomes’ marriage was not troubled, and they speculated that the couple might have decided to end their lives to avoid illness and advanced age.
