Where to Tuck In After You’re Shopped Out

The Fashion District offers plenty of places to stop and grab a snack or have a meal. Here are a few:

Angelique Cafe, 840 S. Spring St., (213) 623-8698. A French cafe with terrace dining serving gourmet salads, vegetarian plates and hot dishes such as beef bourguignon, duck and escargots . All items less than $9.

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, 210 E. Olympic Blvd., No. 120, (213) 749-5746. A place to refresh with a snack or drink after trekking through Santee Alley.

Cole’s P.E. Buffet Inc., 118 E. 6th St., (213) 622-4090. Established in 1908, Cole’s is famous for its French dip sandwiches. All dishes are less than $8.

The New Moon, 102 W. 9th St., (213) 624-0186. Plenty of choices for those craving Chinese chicken salad, Cantonese-style steamed fish, Mongolian beef, egg rolls and dumplings. Dishes $4 to $11.

Sam’s Famous Deli, 121 E. 9th St., (213) 622-2008. Eclectic choices include Dijon salmon salad ($9.95), a teriyaki chicken breast sandwich ($7.25), and plenty of charbroiled burgers. Don’t miss the photographs of old downtown Los Angeles hanging throughout the restaurant. Serving breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. and lunch until 4 p.m., daily except Sundays. Most entrees under $10.

Inside CalMart, 110 E. 9th St. A food court near the 9th Street entrance houses the affordable Presto’s Pizza, Mrs. Field’s, Taco Mole and Pretzelmaker. Away from the food court, Mixed Green Etc., (213) 622-7928, serves an array of dishes from club sandwiches to soups, salads to rotisserie BBQ chicken. Also available: lunch-box meals with a sandwich of the day, soda and chips for $6.95. On the south side of the building, Massimo Ristorante, (213) 689-4415, is a full-service restaurant serving salads, sandwiches and other Italian dishes such as angel hair pasta and spinach cannelloni. Lunch is served weekdays until 3 p.m.; the bar is open until 8 p.m. Most items cost less than $7.
