Church to Celebrate 1981 Vision of Virgin Mary

The 20th anniversary of the reported appearance of the Blessed Virgin in the village of Medjugorje, Bosnia-Herzegovina, will be celebrated Monday at St. Monica Catholic Church, 701 California Ave., Santa Monica.
The site has drawn more than 15 million pilgrims from around the world who believe the Virgin Mary appeared to six children there in 1981 with messages of global peace.
Rosary will begin at 7 p.m., followed by Mass at 8 p.m. (310) 393-9287.
CONFERENCE
The Southern California chapter of Friends of Sabeel/North America will present “The History of Palestinian Christians” from 9 a.m. to noon today at All Saints Church, 132 N. Euclid Ave., Pasadena. The featured speaker will be the Rev. Donald E. Raymond Kurtzman has been appointed chairman of the advisory board for USC’s Casden Institute, which focuses on study of the Jewish role in American life. Kurtzman has been involved with the Jewish Community Foundation as trustee since 1991 and now serves as vice president.
* Douglas Kohn will become rabbi of Congregation Emanu El in San Bernardino on July 1. Kohn has served as a rabbi of congregations in Illinois, New York and Maryland. In 1989 he represented the World Union for Progressive Judaism at the opening of the Jewish Cultural Center in Moscow.
