Samson’s Replacements to Arrive at O.C. Zoo

Two black bears will arrive at the Orange County Zoo on Monday, taking the place of the late Samson, who was euthanized May 14 after suffering kidney failure.
The zoo’s new bears, a 3-year-old male and an 18-month-old female, will be delivered from the Sacramento area by employees from the state Department of Fish and Game, zoo director Forest de Spain said.
Samson became a celebrity in 1994 after being videotaped lounging in a Monrovia hot tub. He was a big draw for visitors to the zoo.
“The most asked question at the zoo since Samson died is, ‘When are we getting a new bear?’ ” De Spain said.
