A Dubai court validated the divorce of a man who sent his wife a text message on his mobile phone that read: “Why are you late? You are divorced.”
However, according to the Khaleej Times and the Gulf News, the man quickly changed his mind, and the couple, who had been married for two years and have a daughter, are reportedly still together. They asked the court to rule whether they were legally divorced.
Islamic law stipulates that a man can divorce his wife by speaking or writing “I divorce you” three times, if certain conditions are met. It was unclear whether the man sent the phrase three times.
