Jacobsen Leaves a Lot to Imagination

Reporters who cover the Stanford basketball team cannot recall hearing star guard Casey Jacobsen guaranteeing a victory over UCLA. Regardless, the Bruins are using the words--real or imagined--as bulletin-board material.
“Casey Jacobsen is a great player, but he has a tendency to run his mouth,” UCLA forward Matt Barnes said. “He guaranteed a victory over the radio. Coach [Steve Lavin] said something about it last week. We’re going to come out and handle it.”
Lavin clarified the situation Friday by saying he heard Jacobsen talk about the fact Stanford wasn’t at full strength when it hosted UCLA last month. A few Cardinal players were suffering from flu that week.
“That’s one of the things that makes Casey effective is his confident swagger,” Lavin said.
