A Guarantee, Rain or Shine, on the High Seas

An Internet site for booking cruises is offering a “money back” guarantee on the weather: If it rains substantially on your cruise, the company will refund your money. Do we have to add there are quite a few caveats? Of course.
The company, icruise.com, says the guarantee covers four- to 14-day Caribbean cruises through Dec. 31, excluding September, October and November-months known for commonly having rain in the Caribbean. Bookings must be made by May 1.
“Rain meters” on the ships measure daily rainfall; insurance giant Lloyd’s of London monitors the process, icruise.com says. A rainy day is defined as 0.25 inch between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Refund conditions vary by length of cruise. For instance, three rainy days prompt a refund on four- or five-day cruises; seven rainy days are needed for refunds on 14-day cruises.
Cruise lines covered include Carnival, Celebrity, Holland America, Royal Caribbean and Windstar. Tel. (888) 909-6242, https://www.icruise.com.
