Boy Dies After Being Shot and Run Over

Police are looking for the killer of a 17-year-old who was shot and then run over by the assailant’s car Sunday.
Gary Lee Newman of the Athens area was walking with friends along St. Andrews Place at 1:35 p.m. when someone in a black sport utility vehicle shot at the group. Struck several times, Newman stumbled onto Imperial Highway and collapsed, sheriff’s Investigator Michael Scott said. The SUV ran over Newman and sped east on Imperial.
The killer was described as 16 to 18 years old and wearing red gang paraphernalia.
