Riordan’s Record

I find it interesting that Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, according to Deputy Mayor Ben Austin, “has a deep commitment to empowering the poor in our city and lifting them out of poverty”(May 16).
If that really were the case, why hasn’t he taken a proactive leadership position to encourage his wealthy business associates in the housing/construction industry to invest in building low-cost housing units in Los Angeles for the thousands of working poor who cannot afford decent housing?
Where has he been on this issue for the last eight years?
