The state has pledged to fund through 2004 a program to rid Orange County of an infestation of imported red fire ants, county Agricultural Commissioner Rick LeFeuvre said.
Orange County has the largest infestation of any county in the state, he said. The program calls for spraying pesticides and other chemicals in areas where the ants have been found.
Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Cynthia P. Coad praised the county’s eradication program. She said ants were found in her Anaheim neighborhood and the yards have since been treated.
