Re “Congress’ Unity Fades, Political Polarity Returns,” Nov. 19: The reemergence of domestic policy debate in Congress, particularly with respect to the economic stimulus package, drilling in the Arctic and campaign finance reform, among other issues, is a reflection of the stability and resilience of the American political system, not a sign of lack of patriotism or disrespect to the lives lost on Sept. 11.
Indeed, to not engage in public debate or to allow “stealth politics” to guide public policy would be to provide yet another victory to the terrorists.
