While all the graphics of American flags are nice, don’t many of these people realize that the flag consists of 50 stars in 11 alternating columns of five and four, representing the 50 states?
Many give the U.S. 54 states, in a nine-by-six pattern, and some (like the banner in Westwood, as pictured on Page B6, Sept. 26) give it 48 states in an eight-by-six pattern.
