San Clemente Wins Critical League Match

Megan Blackshire had 12 kills and five solo blocks to lead San Clemente to a 15-3, 15-3, 8-15, 15-9 girls’ volleyball victory over El Toro in a battle for first place in the South Coast League Wednesday night at San Clemente.
Katy Daly added a team-high 16 kills for San Clemente and Diana Thompson contributed 27 assists. Laura Boissevain had 24 assists and nine kills for the Tritons (18-2, 4-0), the Times’ No. 2-ranked team. Second-place and No. 5-ranked El Toro fell to 3-1 in league.
In boys’ water polo:
Servite 15, El Toro 9--Vincent Bevins scored seven goals to lead the Friars (14-2), the Times’ No. 2-ranked team, to a nonleague victory over the fifth-ranked Chargers. Servite’s Adam Hewko also had a big game with five goals.
Thousand Oaks 8, Royal 4 --Travis Kraus had three goals and Eric Markle scored twice for the Lancers (18-2), who won the Marmonte League match at Simi Valley Aquatic Center.
Goalie Scott Serino had 16 saves and two-meter man Brian Hartson had five steals for Thousand Oaks, the No. 9-ranked team in Division IV.
In girls’ tennis:
Corona del Mar 16, Dana Hills 2--Anne Yelsey and Brittany Holland, the top two singles’ players, swept for visiting Corona del Mar (12-1) as the No. 2 Sea Kings dominated the nonleague match at Dana Hills.
No. 3 Dana Hills fell to 10-4.
Troy 14, Laguna Beach 4--Serena Fermin swept at No. 3 singles for host Troy (13-3), the Times’ No. 6-ranked team.
