Convicted Lawyer Faces New Gun Charge

A former Beverly Hills lawyer who was scheduled to begin serving a 10-month prison term for income tax evasion was ordered held without bail Tuesday on new charges of bringing a loaded handgun into a federal court.
Ronald W. Sampson, 63, was arrested last week when a snub-nosed pistol was detected inside his briefcase as its passed through a metal detector at the Woodland Hills branch of U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
Sampson, who resigned from the bar in 1997, pleaded guilty last year to evading payment of taxes on $335,733 in income from 1992 through 1995.
He also admitted using clients’ money to pay personal expenses.
He had gone to Bankruptcy Court to testify about a failed land deal.
