EBay CEO Options May Be Worth $47.8 Million

EBay Inc. Chief Executive and President Margaret Whitman got stock options worth as much as $47.8 million last year, as shares of the world’s biggest Internet auction site more than doubled.
Whitman was granted options to buy 750,000 EBay shares at $40.06, according to a proxy statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. That came on top of a base salary of $241,256 and a bonus of $139,332 for the 45-year-old executive.
The options would be worth as much as $47.8 million if shares rise 10% or more during the life of the grant, which expires in January 2011. EBay shares fell $2.09 to $49.70 on Nasdaq. They have risen 8% in the last year.
