No sleep-inducing drugs were found in the blood of a Simi Valley man whose wife and stepdaughter are accused of trying to kill him in his bedroom four months ago, a toxicologist testified at their trial Friday.
Eileen Childs, 37, and her daughter, Jennifer Childs, 19, are charged with setting fire to 57-year-old Larry Childs’ mattress and then beating him with baseball bats.
According to court testimony, Jennifer Childs made a milkshake for her stepfather before he went to sleep on March 25. Prosecutors have suggested she might have slipped a sedative into the drink.
On Friday, forensic scientist Dea Boehme, who supervises the toxicology division of the Ventura County crime lab, testified that no drugs had been found in Childs’ blood.
