Feeling the Pressure but Refusing to Crack

Trapped under tons of unshelled peanuts in a warehouse, Floyd Goodman Jr. refused to panic.
Instead, he slowed his breathing to conserve what little oxygen there was. And, he said, he prayed.
The 15-year employee of Golden Peanut Co. in Norfolk, Va., fell into the peanuts Wednesday when he stepped off a beam. “Basically, I got sucked in,” said Goodman, 52. “I knew there was nothing I could do.”
Firefighters and co-workers worked more than 90 minutes to free Goodman, who was protected only by a pair of goggles and paper dust mask.
