Well, He Can Afford to Speak the Truth

Apparently, David Stern needs a telescope to see what’s happening in the NBA from his ivory tower.

Fining Mark Cuban half a million dollars for complaining about the officiating is ridiculous. Game officials have long ignored violations of basketball’s basic rules by its biggest stars (Kobe carries the ball, Jordan travels in the lane, etc.) because their play makes the game exciting and fills seats in the arenas.

Cuban may not get style points for his ranting, but Stern had better ask himself, “Is the NBA a better place with Cuban as an owner?”

I say it is.

His ignoring the cap and luxury tax and putting the best team his money can buy on the floor keeps the other owners honest. I don’t think there is a player in the league who would mind working for him.

Mr. Stern, if you are going to show exception to the league’s stars, you’d better swallow your pride, quit with the double standard and let Mark have his say. He isn’t wrong, just vocal about it.
