Unwanted Babies

Re “Newborn Boy Found in Trash Bin,” Jan. 23: How many more babies have to be found in trash bins before the state runs some public service announcements about the new law that says people can leave babies at hospitals without fear of prosecution? When we had the energy crisis last year, it took almost no time at all for the state to run ads (some of which are still running) encouraging us to save energy. There should be even more urgency in running ads to save babies. Obviously the word isn’t getting out about the new law.
Gov. Gray Davis and state legislators, it is way past time to get off the dime and do something that will actually save lives. Get the public service announcements out! Parents who find themselves in crisis don’t have to discard their babies like trash.
