Re “Filling the Need for Speed,” June 5: I have been motorcycle riding on Sundays with the same group since the early 1970s. Usually, Ortega Highway in Orange County is part of the ride. Agreed, there are occasional idiots, as can be found in any complex endeavor where a training class has not been conducted, but they are few.
Motorcyclists are a friendly and responsible group. We are polite with the California Highway Patrol officers and they are friendly and polite to us--even inquisitive as to our thoughts about certain bikes. The Harley riders and sport bike riders are each out there for fundamentally the same reason, and we are all friendly with one another, whether it be at the Roadhouse on Ortega Highway or Cook’s Corner in Santiago Canyon.
