Blast Investigators Lean Back to Suicide Theory

Pieces of a truck’s gearbox found near the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, are leading police to reconsider their theory that a blast at the compound this month was set off by remote control.
Interior Minister Moinuddin Haider said investigators now believe the blast, which killed at least 12 people, was set off by the driver of a pickup truck carrying the bomb.
Until the gearbox pieces were found, police said, investigators were unaware of the presence of a pickup and believed the bomb was placed in the car of unwitting victims and set off remotely.
