Last year--Spain’s Jose Maria Canizares beat Gil Morgan with a birdie on the ninth extra hole in the second-longest playoff in Senior PGA Tour history.

Last week--Tom Kite won the SBC Senior Classic in Valencia, beating Tom Watson on the second hole of a playoff. Watson holed a 123-yard chip for an eagle on the final hole of regulation.

Notes--Kite also won the season-opening MasterCard Championship in Hawaii. He leads the money list with $608,600 in five starts, followed by Hale Irwin with $510,500 in four events.... The Siebel Classic is next week in San Jose.

TV--USA (Today-Friday, 4-6 p.m., delayed) and Channel 4 (Saturday-Sunday, noon-3 p.m.).

Last year--Sweden’s Jesper Parnevik won his fifth PGA Tour title, beating Mark Calcavecchia, Australia’s Geoff Ogilvy and New Zealand’s Craig Perks by a stroke.

Last week--South Africa’s Ernie Els won the Genuity Championship in Miami, holding off Tiger Woods by two strokes after taking an eight-stroke lead into the final round.

Notes--Woods is taking the week off, while Els is playing in the Dubai Desert Classic.... Phil Mickelson is coming off consecutive missed cuts and a first-round loss in the Match Play Championship.... The Bay Hill Invitational is next week, followed by the Players Championship.

Last year--Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn took advantage of Woods’ final-hole collapse for a two-stroke victory.

Notes--Els tops the field along with Bjorn, Mark O’Meara, Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie, Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke, England’s Nick Faldo and Spain’s Seve Ballesteros.
