Coroner: Hit-and-Run Victim Died in Few Hours

The Tarrant County medical examiner in Fort Worth said that a homeless man who was struck by a car and lodged in the windshield probably only lived for a few hours with a nearly amputated leg--not a few days, as police had estimated.

Chante J. Mallard, a 25-year-old nurse’s aide, told police she hit a man Oct. 26, then ignored his cries for help as she drove home with him stuck to her car, according to an affidavit.
