Downey Police Should Release Shooting Video

Re “2nd Video Is Said to Justify Shooting,” August 29:

Since when is does a “furtive” hand movement give the police license to kill? Who decides what a “furtive” hand movement is, anyway? Shouldn’t there be a gun (or something resembling one) attached to the “furtive” hand before police view it as a deadly threat?

And why are the police reluctant to release the video that they say exonerates them? Surely, if the police have a video that proves Gonzalo Martinez provoked them to gun him down, it should be shown immediately, not after “the district attorney’s office finishes its investigation of the shooting.”

Even the police allegation that Martinez made “an apparent attempt to run them over” sounds suspect.
