No Excusing Parsons’ Mideast Analysis

Re “Mideast Riptide Touches Newport,” Dana Parsons, Aug. 30:
It must be nice to be able to view the world through the porthole of your Newport Beach yacht. Of course, the tiny opening may tend to limit your vision. Beverly Anderson’s myopic and naive view of the Middle East may be attributable to her privileged lifestyle and her unfortunate choice of travel companions. But Dana Parsons, theoretically a professional journalist, has no such excuse.
His absurd analogy between Israel and Orange County is ridiculous on its face. Garden Grove isn’t Gaza. When residents of Garden Grove begin murdering teenagers in Anaheim, when they blow themselves up in the Pirates of the Caribbean, when they fire automatic weapons at cars on the 57 freeway, when they kidnap children at an Angels game and then brutally murder them, only then can Parsons make his case.
Until then, I recommend that he spare us his weak analysis of situations he clearly doesn’t understand.
