Wind Is Responsible for Jellyfish Invasion

Thousands of little blue jellyfish washed ashore on Santa Cruz-area beaches, pushed to the sands by a strong onshore wind.
The jellies littering the beaches this week are commonly known as “By-The-Wind Sailors.” They have small sails on their backs that help them navigate to food sources in the water.
Normally, the tiny creatures stay well offshore. But spring winds often push them ashore in huge numbers.
The jellyfish sting but are dangerous only to people who are highly allergic.
