Smith, Lynx Beat Buzzer, and Storm

Katie Smith’s eight-footer as the buzzer sounded lifted the Minnesota Lynx to a 73-71 victory over the Seattle Storm, Saturday at Minneapolis in front of 6,555.
Smith worked free from Seattle’s Lauren Jackson, and managed to get a shot off from the right baseline, over two defenders.
Minnesota (14-11) is now tied for third place with the Storm (14-11) in the Western Conference. By winning the season series between the teams, the Lynx own the tiebreaker over Seattle.
Sue Bird, who had 17 points for Seattle, made a layup with 2.6 seconds remaining to tie the score at 71.

Detroit 72, Indiana 58 -- Swin Cash scored 15 points for the Shock, with a league-leading 18-6 record, in a victory in front of 10,335 at Auburn Hills, Mich. Tamika Catchings had 20 points and seven rebounds for Indiana (13-11).

Houston 64, San Antonio 55 -- Sheryl Swoopes scored 22 points to help Comets (15-9) win at Houston in front of 11,060 and hand the Silver Stars (9-17) their first loss under new coach Shell Dailey.
