Long-ago memories of the Riviera
Rosemary McClure’s article on the Cote d’Azur [“Riches of the Riviera,” July 27] brought back wonderful memories of July 1958, which I spent at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes. I paid $6.50 per night for a room with a private bath. I spent the day on that beautiful beach with the striped umbrellas, then went to the Palm Beach Casino to watch Darryl Zanuck and the Shah of Iran play chemin de fer. It was great fun and the best summer of my life. Merci beaucoup.
