Quattrone Lawyer Gives Case for Moving Venue

The obstruction-of-justice trial of former CS First Boston investment banker Frank Quattrone should be moved near his Northern California home because his wife is ill and would be unable to travel to New York, Quattrone’s lawyer said Monday.
The lawyer, John Keker, did not describe the illness and had no comment after a hearing in the courtroom of U.S. District Judge Richard Owen. Owen made no ruling on the request.
Federal prosecutors repeated their written arguments that a move was unwarranted and could result in delay of the Sept. 29 trial. They said the trial would take no more than two weeks and thus would pose no undue hardship for Quattrone.
Quattrone is accused of sending a December 2000 e-mail urging subordinates to destroy documents being sought by a Manhattan grand jury.
