Bridgestone Profit Up on Asia, Europe Sales

Japanese tire maker Bridgestone Corp. reported a 31% jump in profit for the first six months of the year as sales grew in Asia and Europe. It also raised its earnings projection for the year.
The Tokyo-based company has recovered from the aftermath of massive recalls of Firestone and other tires from its North American subsidiary in 2000.
Bridgestone said it earned $268.6 million for the first half of the year as sales increased 1.7% to $9 billion. The company raised its earnings projections for the year by 76% to $672 million.
