Ex-Outfielder Calderon Is Shot to Death

LOIZA, Puerto Rico — Former major league player Ivan Calderon was shot to death Saturday. He was 41.
Witnesses told police Calderon was in a store when two people entered and, without a word, shot the former outfielder multiple times in the back.
Calderon ended his major league career in 1993 after 10 seasons. He had a .272 career batting average with 104 homers and 444 runs batted in.
Calderon was born in eastern Puerto Rico and lived in Loiza, a northern coastal town.
