“Oklahoma!” is not OK.
The revival of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, which last week began advertising that it would close in the spring, will fold Feb. 23 instead.
Box-office receipts dropped dramatically in the last two weeks for the lavish, $10-million show that now stars Stephen R. Buntrock as Curly and features Patty Duke as Aunt Eller. The show grossed only $296,253 last week, filling less than 50% of the seats in the cavernous, 1,933-seat Gershwin Theatre.
