Have class, will travel

I read with interest “Affluent Travelers Still Globe-Trotting Despite Economy” (Travel Insider, Jan. 26). Judy Hanzel of Indianapolis might like to review some of the literature of past centuries, when a woman of means traveled with a paid female companion, not a maid or nurse but a woman of her station who would blend into the class.
There are many seasoned travelers of limited funds who would be great companions for a woman traveling alone. Those enlightened persons would have to be women of education, culture and refinement. The extra cost would be worthwhile.
