Air Travel Numbers Back Up at Airport
An increase in air travelers in December and January helped the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport close a passenger gap left after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
More than 63,000 travelers used the local airport in December, a 26% jump from the 50,200 passengers reported in December 2001.
The holiday season travel allowed the airport to post a small increase in passengers in 2002 compared to the total in 2001 -- a year that nearly crippled the travel industry. There were 728,300 passengers last year, 0.4% more than in 2001.
