An American nurse sentenced in the arson death of his employer, billionaire banker Edmond Safra, was recaptured at a French Riviera hotel hours after he escaped from his Monaco cell, officials said.
Ted Maher and an Italian inmate had sawed six bars from their cell window and climbed down a 26-foot wall on a line of plastic bags tied together.
Luigi Ciardecci, who was awaiting trial for armed robbery, was still at large.
