BAGHDAD — Three U.S. soldiers died and six others were injured in a traffic accident in northern Iraq, the military said Saturday.
The soldiers, part of a unit attached to the Army’s 101st Airborne Division, were traveling in a “light-medium tactical vehicle” when the accident occurred on a road between Mosul and Tikrit, the military said in a statement.
Two of the soldiers died at the scene, and one died at the 21st Combat Support Hospital, the military said. An investigation was underway, and the victims’ names were withheld pending notification of family members.
In a separate incident, two U.S. soldiers driving a supply vehicle Friday struck and killed an Iraqi child crossing a road, the military said in a statement.
The accident occurred 20 miles north of Tallil in southern Iraq, the military said. It said the soldiers called for a helicopter to evacuate the child, who died before the aircraft arrived.
