From Times Wire Reports
New Zealand’s capital, Wellington, is built on land stolen from its indigenous Maori owners in the mid-19th century, a government-funded report said. The report found that about 247,000 acres were illegally taken from six tribes, often through the use of fraudulent deeds.
The report catalogues land seizures, illegal documents, forced evictions and broken promises. Tribal descendants stand to receive tens of millions of dollars and the return of some of their lost land.
