An Oxnard motorist was killed early Thursday when another driver slammed into his pickup truck on Pacific Coast Highway north of Mugu Rock, authorities said.
The 55-year-old man, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters who responded to the 6:50 a.m. accident, said Steve Reid, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.
The man died of blunt force injuries, a coroner’s official said.
Ronald Lee Poling, 46, of Los Angeles, was traveling northbound when he lost control of his Camaro, swerving onto the right-hand shoulder and hitting a call box, Reid said. Poling’s vehicle then swerved back across both lanes into oncoming traffic, striking the driver’s side of the victim’s truck as he traveled southbound, he said.
Poling was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he was treated for pain in his neck and pelvic area, Reid said.
The crash slowed traffic in the area for several hours as investigators worked at the scene. An inquiry is continuing into why Poling lost control, Reid said.
