Tony Capstick, 59; Comic and Musician on British Television

Tony Capstick, 59, comic and musician popular on British television, died Thursday in London. Friends said he had been ill for some time and that his health had deteriorated since January, when he left Radio Sheffield.
Capstick had been a host for the station for about 30 years. He also appeared in British television series, including “Last of the Summer Wine” and soap operas such as “Emmerdale” and “Coronation Street.”
A talented guitarist, Capstick was also a successful recording artist. His single with “Sheffield Grinder” on one side and “Capstick Comes Home” on the other reached No. 3 on British charts in 1981.
